Mounteney Jephson Memorial Rifle Club

Mounteney Jephson Memorial Rifle Club

The club is named after one of two gentlemen with contacts to Fittleworth. Firstly Sir Arthur Jermy Mounteney-Jephson, explorer on the Emin Pasha relief expedition with H. M. Stanley and Queens Equerry and secondly, Mr. Richard Mounteney-Jephson, a long time member of Fittleworth village who was sexton at St. Mary's church for many years.
Both have connections with the village but over the passage of time just which one was responsible for the formation of the club has been lost. So any assistance from the public would be appreciated
.

In our 107th year the rifle club is still taking part in small-bore rifle shooting in all forms. This includes prone, standing, kneeling and in recent years light sporting rifle. Other disciplines such as air pistol and air rifle are also undertaken. At the outdoor range we have facilities for shooting over 50 metres and 100 yards. Both of these disciplines are available to the more proficient shooter as they are extremely testing.

Club meet nights are Monday, Thursday and Fridays. All new members must attend the Friday night meetings for a minimum time period as prescribed by law. The range is open from 6pm until those attending have finished and wish to go home.

Membership subscription is £40.00 per annum for adults and £10.00 per annum for juniors. Juniors are under 18 years of age.
